Did we mention that the 2015 IS-BAO revisions were issued in January? I thought so. If you are not in Shanghai at ABACE it must mean that it is because you are still at work assessing and implementing the 2015 changes that are applicable to your flight operation. Well good work! In a prior article in this blog (KEEPING UP: 2015 IS-BAO REVISIONS ARE ISSUED), we reviewed the general subject and what the appearance of the annual revisions means for you as an operator who seeks to maintain conformity with the Standard. This article will focus more specifically on three revisions that most affect training. Here is a summary of them: First, Section 5 of the Standard, Training and Proficiency, has been revised to clarify the difference between Crew Resource Management (CRM) and its applicability just to flight crewmembers, and Human Factors (HF) and its applicability to all other personnel, including maintenance (unless they also perform duties on-board in flight, in which case CRM would also apply). CRM is no longer recommended (or required) for maintenance personnel, but HF is. Second, there are three content changes contained in this additional revision to Section 5: Training is now required on “all emergency equipment” instead of on the previously provided list. Training is now required “to competency,” whereas previously there was no performance standard for the training, and Emergency Evacuation drills are now required. In addition, since training to competency is now required, satisfying these training requirements via demonstration is more difficult to defend as being in conformity with the Standard.
</oembed>
