Not really. In fact, the world of satellite-based navigation is continuing to build like a slow motion tsunami. It’s just that the RNAV label is disappearing like the sales of fondue pots. The term is slipping away, being replaced by the more global Performance Based Navigation (PBN). The idea behind this is to characterize all satellite-based operations based on what the airplane-avionics-airspace combo can do; that is, perform, rather than how it was certified or installed—thus ‘Performance Based’.Because you are busy people and the global PBN world is developing rapidly, we thought it might be useful to provide a brief overview of some of what’s happening:
