No problem! With the expansion of the digital age, the FAA is attempting to stay ahead of the power curve. To avoid having to edit FAR 135.144&nbsp;regarding Portable Electronic Devices (PEDs) every time a new device comes on the market, the FAA has put part of the responsibility in the hands of the owner\/operator. The FAA document Information for Operators (InFO) 13010SUP expands on the previous issuance of InFO 13010. &nbsp; The supplemental document is intended to be an aid for operators. It outlines issues that should be addressed when taking on a policy that allows an expanded use of passenger-supplied PEDs in various phases of flight. The document explains how operators proceed to add devices detailed in FAR 135.144(b) 5 and (c) which, when boiled down, says that the operator can determine which PEDs may be carried \u2013 as long as it does not cause interference with the navigation and communication. So how can an aircraft operator do this? It is basically a five step process.&nbsp; Determine the aircraft PED immunity. Determine the phases of flight where PEDs can remain on and be used. Document permitted and prohibited PED use. Establish policies and procedures. Provide training to flight crews.&nbsp; Flight Standards has designated a group of experts who are familiar with the work of the PED Regions and Aeronautical Center Operations (ARC) to assist with implementation of PEDs throughout various phases of flight.
