We do not act rightly because we have virtue or excellence, but we rather have those because we have acted rightly. We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act but a habit.”

As many in Business Aviation know, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has mandated the training of thousands of flight department employees by December 1, to educate them on the identification of and protection from hazardous chemicals in the workplace. The new Hazard Communication Standard will phase in specific requirements over the next few years with full standard implementation in 2016. In this new Globally Harmonized System (GHS), the standard provides employees with the right to understand the information they are provided in the workplace.

OSHA’s next highest standard priority is a nationwide, employer-established written Injury and Illness Protection Program (IIPP or I2P2). This standard, first issued in California in July, 1991, could go into effect in the next one to two years. It would require employers to organize a thorough, written IIPP to reduce injuries and the associated costs to businesses. Many companies already employ such a program to eliminate workplace health and safety hazards. The IIPP standard would make such a program a requirement, establish specific guidelines, and include six key components: Management Leadership, Worker Participation, Hazard Identification and Assessment, Hazard Prevention and Control, Education and Training, and Program Evaluation and Improvement. In summary, this means implementing a process for locating and eliminating hazards in the workplace.

[2
48,8,21,22
post-140","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-blog","tag-hazcom","tag-is-bao-training","tag-osha-business-aviation","tag-osha-training
["GET
