It\u2019s been many years since I closed a bar and heard the \u201clast call for alcohol\u201d yell across the room. These days, I hear a similar chant from the beer vendor before the last out of the 7th inning. Well, here is Advanced Aircrew Academy\u2019s last call for OSHA training before the December 1st mandate.<\/p>\n
We have received many calls over the last few months from customers and potential clients wondering if the OSHA training REALLY applies to them and, if so, which employees need the training. That is a good question. NBAA commented <\/a>the mandate would affect \u201cthousands of flight department employees,\u201d but did not detail which job positions within the flight department need it. Bob Conyers from Baldwin Aviation said \u201ca new OSHA regulation requires training of all flight department personnel.\u201d<\/p>\n The training fact sheet from OSHA did not provide guidance on who needs the training, although the document was not designed to define who needs the training.<\/p>\n We are recommending anyone whose job description has them fulfill duties in the hangar, receive packages potentially containing hazardous materials, or work on or around the aircraft complete the new training requirements. That makes it a \u201cyes\u201d for pilots, cabin attendants, and mechanics. It makes it a \u201cmaybe\u201d for admininstrative personnel if they receive shipments or have duties in the hangar or aircraft as part of their job description.<\/p>\n In the song Closing Time by Semisonic, the lyrics include \u201cYou don\u2019t have to go home, but you can\u2019t stay here.\u201d This is your last call for OSHA training.
