{"id":363,"date":"2016-02-28T13:00:00","date_gmt":"2016-02-28T13:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.aircrewacademy.com\/blog\/2016\/02\/28\/did-you-know-mnps-is-over\/"},"modified":"2018-06-27T17:55:44","modified_gmt":"2018-06-27T17:55:44","slug":"did-you-know-mnps-is-over","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.aircrewacademy.com\/blog\/did-you-know-mnps-is-over\/","title":{"rendered":"Did You Know MNPS Is Over?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>As of February 4, 2016, <strong>MNPS<\/strong> (Minimum Navigation Performance Specifications) Airspace is being dumped as a term and replaced by the much more user friendly <strong>NAT High Level Airspace or NAT HLA<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>MNPS first came into being in 1977, and this change is significant in that the requirements for approval to enter the new NAT HLA are updated; you must now have RNP-4 or RNP-10. In addition, the rest of the Atlantic welcomes Bod\u00f8 Oceanic to the fray. It joins Shanwick, Gander, Reykjavik, New York, and Santa Maria to make up the new NAT HLA, which keep the original vertical profile of FL285-FL420.<\/p>\n<p>The NAT Doc 007 &#8220;North Atlantic Operations and Airspace Manual&#8221; Version 2016-1 has been issued and is available online at the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.icao.int\/EURNAT\/EUR%20and%20NAT%20Documents\/NAT%20Documents\/NAT%20Doc%20007\/NAT%20Doc%20007_V-2016-1.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NAT-EUR website<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"\" src=\"\/media\/rokgallery\/9\/9cdb5c98-9595-4903-acb1-8d1f2e21e9a4\/fbc87884-83ed-45c2-c5f8-524cb2441bf9.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"355\" height=\"469\" \/><\/p>\n<h3>Airspace Affected<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Shanwick Oceanic<\/li>\n<li>New York Oceanic East<\/li>\n<li>Gander Oceanic<\/li>\n<li>Reykjavik<\/li>\n<li>Santa Maria<\/li>\n<li>Bod\u00f8 Oceanic<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Primary 04 February 2016 Changes<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>The term <strong>NAT High Level Airspace<\/strong> replaces the term <strong>MNPS Airspace<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Bod\u00f8 Oceanic<\/strong> is added to what was previously the MNPS Area.<\/li>\n<li>New approvals to operate in the airspace will only be given to aircraft that are <strong>RNP-4<\/strong> or <strong>RNP-10<\/strong> capable.<\/li>\n<li><strong>NAT Doc 007<\/strong> North Atlantic Operations and Airspace Manual is updated to reflect the changes. Version 2016-1 is available online at the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.icao.int\/EURNAT\/EUR%20and%20NAT%20Documents\/NAT%20Documents\/NAT%20Doc%20007\/NAT%20Doc%20007_V-2016-1.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NAT-EUR website<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>HLA Approval<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Functions in the same way that MNPS Approvals did, except that RNP-4 or RNP-10 is now a requirement.<\/li>\n<li>Existing MNPS Approvals will allow entry to HLA Airspace until <strong>2020<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Just having RNP-4 or RNP-10 is not sufficient to obtain HLA approval. Previous requirements for MNPS are transferred to HLA.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Aircraft Requirements<\/h3>\n<p>HLA requirements remain the same as MNPS requirements, with the exception that RNP-4 or RNP-10 is now added.<\/p>\n<p>Since the RLAT Tracks will always be within HLA airspace, operators must meet the existing basic HLA requirements, and the additional RLAT requirements.<\/p>\n<h3>HLA Requirements<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>HF (some exceptions)<\/li>\n<li>State HLA Approval (RNP-4 or RNP-10, Aircrew HLA approved)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>To Use RLAT Tracks (Half-Tracks)<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Comms:<\/strong> CPDLC<\/li>\n<li><strong>Nav:<\/strong> RNP-4<\/li>\n<li><strong>Surveillance:<\/strong> ADS-C<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Flight Planning<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Field 10a \u2013 Satcom capability <strong>J5<\/strong> for Inmarsat, <strong>J7<\/strong> for Irridium, <strong>X<\/strong> for HLA Approval<\/li>\n<li>Field 10b \u2013 Surveillance capability <strong>D1<\/strong> for ADS-C<\/li>\n<li>Field 18 \u2013 RNP-4 (PBN\/<strong>L1<\/strong>)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>As of February 4, 2016, MNPS (Minimum Navigation Performance Specifications) Airspace is being dumped as a term and replaced by the much more user friendly NAT High Level Airspace or NAT HLA.
