The lingo gives the appearance of being complicated and helps keep aviation consultants busy, but one acronym that the Business Aviation world has agreed upon is simple: IS-BAO.

The International Standard for Business Aircraft Operations (now you know why it’s called IS-BAO), is the recommended code of best practices in Business Aviation. It is both a noun and a verb because it’s a training program and a call to action.

There is humble confidence in reaching an aviation safety benchmark, but in aviation, that bench is just used to reach higher. Because there are infinite variables in aviation, flight department employees are constantly being taught how to mitigate safety risks. IS-BAO is about learning. The overall goal is to create a safety culture and thought process that will become a reflex for everyone in your flight department.

Every flight department has unique flight environment challenges, so there is not one audit for all. Veterans of the process know that you will not find a summary list of required or recommended training. Figuring it all out with a level of confidence that you are willing to bet your audit on can be a multi–pronged exercise. Flight departments can set standards, but standards are worthless if you don’t expect/have compliance and the paperwork to track compliance can be challenging, only if you let it. Developing and maintaining a Safety Management System (SMS, yes, another acronym) are two separate challenges. But, there is no need to reinvent a process – Advanced Aircrew Academy has it figured out for you.

We simply need to know your goals so we can set up a curriculum of eLearning modules. We have a complete line of topics to meet your IS-BAO training needs, including Emergency Procedures, Aircraft Surface Contamination, Safety Management Systems (SMS), Dangerous Goods, Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), International Procedures, Controlled Flight into Terrain (CFIT), Crew Resource Management (CRM), High Altitude Operations, and Fatigue Management.

Don’t let the word “audit” keep you up at night. Just let us know when your next IS-BAO audit is scheduled, and we can propose a timeline to deliver the modules. We typically deliver two modules every quarter but are flexible based on your needs. Some IS-BAO topics require training on your company-specific procedures. For topics like your Operations Manual, our Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) will customize your training. They take our modules and integrate your operator-specific procedures, all at a fraction of the cost of not having it…

For more information, you can read the colorful whitepaper our own IS-BAO author and consultant, Jim Weaver, wrote.
