Suspected Unapproved Parts

The Suspected Unapproved Parts (SUP) module highlights the role and responsibility of a maintenance technician in identification of unapproved or counterfeit parts. The module also includes Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) reporting procedures for SUP.

This module also includes information on the following documents:

  • FAA Advisory Circular (AC) 21-29D Detecting and Reporting Suspected Unapproved Parts
  • AC 20-142 Eligibility and Evaluation of US Military Surplus Flight Critical Aircraft Parts, Engines, and Propellers
  • AC 20-62E Eligibility, Quality, and Identification of Approved Aeronautical Replacement Parts

The module can be customized to operator-specific procedures outlined in a General Maintenance Manual.
This module is not required by IS-BAO. It can be used for business aviation flight departments or Part 145 repair stations to train maintenance technicians on Suspected Unapproved Parts.
