UAS: Emergencies and Response Plans
Most UAS missions are a team effort consisting of a Remote Pilot-in-Command, auxiliary pilots, observers, and sensor/payload operators. During an emergency, crew coordination becomes more challenging due to time pressures, incomplete information, and an increased demand for our attention. As it becomes more challenging, it becomes more important that the crew work well together. This module provides an overview of common and previous emergencies and the coordination required to handle the situation.
To properly respond to emergencies, transportational aviation operations should also have an Emergency Response Plan (ERP) that details the organization’s structure, role assignments, and procedures for each person during and after an emergency. The information in this module is designed to give an overview of how to provide a structured response that includes Part 107 reporting requirements.
