Line Operation Safety Audits

Line Operation Safety Audits

LOSA is a proactive program that collects data during all aspects of the daily operational workflow to identify latent threats to the operation. This data is then used in the organization's Safety Management System to identify unknown and misidentified risks and weaknesses in the operational system, providing a safety net for aviation operations. A LOSA program does not need FAA approval, acceptance, or monitoring. While a flight department may elect to share the results of a LOSA with the FAA, there is no requirement to do so. LOSA data generated by observing could impact functions in the flight department (Maintenance, Scheduling, etc.). While designed for flight crews, a LOSA-type program could be created for any division within the department.

There is no specific Part 135 requirement for training on LOSA. The module addresses FAA Advisory Circular 120-90: Line Operations Safety Audits and FAA Advisory Circular 120-92D: Safety Management Systems for Aviation Service Providers.
